Four teams ranked in the top ten lost on Saturday and a few others were involved in very close calls. Georgia’s loss to LSU shakes up the playoff projections. The Bulldogs are still right in the mix for an SEC East title, but they will need to rebound quickly with Florida, Kentucky and Auburn next up on the schedule. Texas made a big push towards the Big 12 title with their thrilling victory over Oklahoma. Once again the Red River Rivalry was a close content, but this time Texas held on for a 48-45 victory. That leaves the Longhorns and West Virginia as the lone undefeated teams in Big 12 play. Those two will meet on November 3rd, but first Texas hosts Baylor this week before travelling to Oklahoma State on October 27th. Two top ten showdowns dominated the slate this week. Notre Dame hosted Stanford and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 38-17 victory. The Cardinal are still a serious contender in the Pac-12, but that win was big for the Irish. With wins over Michigan and now Stanford, Notre Dame has some quality wins on their resume. There were quite a few close calls on Saturday, but it was Virginia Tech who took the biggest tumble. Last week we had the Hokies representing the ACC in the Peach Bowl. After Virginia Tech’s loss to Old Dominion, it looks like Clemson is the only ACC team who could possibly play in one of the top bowl games. LSU picked up a huge road win at Auburn. With victories against Miami and now Auburn, LSU has earned plenty of respect. Both Georgia, on October 13th, and Alabama, on November 3rd, have to come to Baton Rouge so this is a team that can pick up plenty of big wins and make a serious push for the playoffs.
