Havana Solaun NWSL Draft Profile

Havana Solaun NWSL Draft Profile

Havana Solaun, Senior, M, Florida

Overview:

Havana Solaun has been a model of consistency since arriving at Florida in 2011. Despite starting in only four games, she appeared in 21 games for the Gators during the 2011 season, registering 18 points (6G, 6A). Solaun was also selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team. She saw much more time on the pitch in 2012, starting in 24 games and nearly doubling the number of minutes played. Her 22 points, seven goals, and eight assists were all good for second on the team. Solaun didn’t skip a beat in 2013. Starting in all 25 games and acting as one of Florida’s co-captains, she led the team in assists (9) and ranked second on the Gators in goals (8) and points (25). Her performance earned her All-SEC First Team honors.

Solaun’s greatest strength is her vision. She keeps her head on a swivel, allowing her to find the proper outlets at all times, and her execution in the short- and long-range passing game only adds to this success. Solaun possesses solid footwork, but she will need to improve her strength on the ball – particularly in tight spaces – to be effective at the next level.

Final Projection:

Solaun has the offensive tools that many teams look for, but she will need further development to tap her true potential. Teams willing to be patient with Solaun should have no hesitation in drafting her.
