#2 Florida vs. Duke

With its 2-0 win over Jacksonville, Florida advances to NCAA Second Round action for the eighth consecutive season. Florida’s first goal also was the first of the season for Tessa Andujar. Freshman Savannah Jordan, one-touched the ball wide to Andujar on the left flank and scored upper slot at the far post in the 31st minute. A corner kick from Annie Speese was touched in at the near post by freshman Meggie Dougherty Howard to give the Gators the final margin in the 57th minute. It was the second goal for Dougherty Howard. Duke features an 8-8-5 overall mark this season after advancing to the second round on penalty kicks, 4-3, at Colorado College.  The two squads battled 110 minutes to a 1-1 score before heading to penalty kicks.  Kelly Cobb scored Duke’s lone goal and closed the penalty kick session with a finish.  Duke has now advanced in penalty kicks in the NCAA Tournament in five of six matches in school history, including its last three. Florida defeated Duke last season 3-2 in overtime.


St. John's vs. Arkansas

St. John’s women’s soccer made history on Saturday evening when the Red Storm upset No. 9/16 UCF in a 3-1 win for the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. The Red Storm improved to 12-5-3 behind a spectacular performance by freshman keeper Diana Poulin and goals by Miranda Haraughty and Rachel Daly. The goal was Daly's 23rd, an NCAA high. The Red Storm was outshot 26-3, but St. John’s made each attempt count.  A 2-1 win against Oklahoma State Friday night in its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance advanced the University of Arkansas soccer team to the second round. The Razorbacks struck in the 33rd minute with a goal by Lindsey Mayo to give Arkansas a 1-0 lead. Claire Kelley sent a ball into the box, and it was settled by Mayo at the near post. The Razorback sophomore turned and sent it far post to put the Razorbacks up 1-0. It was the third goal of the season for Mayo. The Razorbacks answered in the 69th minute when Tyler Allen sent the ball in, cruising over the heads of Oklahoma State defenders and straight into the goal. The Razorbacks took a 2-1 lead as the free kick by Allen went untouched. The goal was just the second of the season for Allen, her first game-winning goal.


Florida is 5-3-2 against Duke, 18-0 against Arkansas and has not faced St. John's. Arkansas is 0-1 against Duke, 0-18 against Florida and has also not faced St. John's. St. John's has not faced any of the teams playing at Durham this weekend. If Florida were to win and face Arkansas, it would be going for its second win over the Razorbacks this season, after the Gators defeated them 1-0 on a goal by Jordan in the SEC tournament. Not including Florida and Arkansas because they're both in the SEC, Duke played many of the same opponents as the two SEC schools did. Duke defeated Texas A&M, but lost to South Carolina, while South Carolina lost to both, Florida defeated A&M, but lost to South Carolina. Arkansas and Florida each defeated Oklahoma State. Florida lost to FSU in its meeting with the Seminoles and Duke lost both meetings.
