Week 7 Big Sky FCS Football Game Breakdowns

Week 7 Big Sky Conference Breakdowns

Southern Utah @ #23 Montana, Saturday, 3:30

Southern Utah comes into this matchup with Montana after two close losses to Montana State and Sacramento State. The Thunderbirds have played well but not well enough on defense to pull off the upset against either of those teams. Montana has had some troubles but they are still a good team, and winning in Missoula is always tough. I think it will be close, but I just don’t see Southern Utah getting a win here.

Projected Score:  Montana 27, Southern Utah 21

#5 Eastern Washington @ #2 Montana State, Saturday, 3:35

This game is a big, big matchup in the Big Sky Conference. Montana State has played a pretty weak schedule this season and will be presented a huge challenge this weekend when Eastern Washington comes to town. Eastern Washington is 4-1 with an FBS win and a close FBS loss. I think that Eastern Washington’s defense will be too much for the Bobcats to handle and this one will likely come down to the wire. In the end I predict Eastern Washington comes out on top and asserts itself as the mid-season favorite to win the Big Sky.

Projected Score: Eastern Washington 30, Montana State 24

#21 Northern Arizona @ North Dakota, Saturday, 4:00

Northern Arizona has had a wonderful season so far and North Dakota has stalled out the past couple of weeks. This game is very important for North Dakota if they want to keep their Big Sky championship possibilities alive. Northern Arizona will be looking to get Zach Bauman going on the ground. Unfortunately for North Dakota, Northern Arizona has one of the better defenses in the Big Sky. I think fans in Grand Forks will go home unhappy as the Lumberjacks take care of North Dakota.

Projected Score: Northern Arizona 38, North Dakota 17

UC Davis @ Idaho State, Saturday, 6:05

UC Davis has played some pretty tough competition so far this year, and has played well against it. They will finally catch a break in the competition as Idaho State has shown that defensively they have a lot of work to do. If UC Davis can shut down that Idaho State passing attack, this game will be over quick.

Projected Score: UC Davis 42, Idaho State 14

Northern Colorado @ #18 Cal Poly, Saturday, 9:05

I believe Cal Poly will be a top 10, maybe even a top 5, team by the end of the season. The Mustangs will have no trouble putting away Northern Colorado who will continue to struggle throughout the season. I will say it now, Cal Poly has the best defense and best offense in the Big Sky and the matchup between Eastern Washington and Cal Poly on November 3rd will determine the Big Sky champion.

Projected Score:  Cal Poly 52, Northern Colorado 0

Weber State @ Sacramento State, Saturday, 9:05

Sacramento State has been a spotty team throughout this season but they have churned out a nice 4-2 record with an FBS win thus far. I think the Sacramento State offense is superb, but they struggle a lot on defense. This weekend they will match up with winless Weber State. They should have no trouble in this game, but they cannot sleep on the Wildcats who have a decent offense themselves.

Projected Score: Sacramento State 38, Weber State 28
