Yale Football Mounts Comeback Against Lehigh

Who would have blamed fans from leaving the Yale Bowl in the first quarter with the Elis down 28-7 to Lehigh? There was no indication at that point that the 0-2 Mountain Hawks would not run away with the game. But in stepped quarterback Morgan Roberts, a Clemson transfer, and veteran running back Tyler Varga and Lehigh found itself on the losing end of a 54-43 game.

Roberts was a nifty 30-39 for 356 yards, outdoing Lehigh star quarterback Nick Shafnisky, who was 20-36, before over 7,000 fans at the Yale Bowl. Varga, perhaps the best running back in the Ivies, ran for 152 yards. Yale's 54 points and 683 yards of total offense were the most for the Elis since 2003.

The win energized the Bulldogs, entering their 2nd biggest game of the year (after Harvard) in Army next Saturday. The 100th anniversary will be celebrated with pomp and circumstance against the Black Knights, a narrow loser to Wake Forest on Saturday. Yale now stands at 1-0.
