Yale Football Opens Up Season Against Lehigh

There may be more attractive games this week in the Ivy, but how can we ignore game one of the 100th anniversary of the historic Yale Bowl, Lehigh at Yale, which figures to be a mighty offensive battle. Yale opens its season against 0-2 Lehigh. The Moutain Hawks have not opened 0-2 since 2009. They dropped a close game at home to James Madison and fell 45-27 at #7 New Hampshire Saturday, giving up 646 yards in the process.

Lehigh is led by all-purpose quarterback, Nick Shafnisky who is a threat on every play, to run or pass. He has starred in both losses this season. Yale returns star running back Tyler Varga from Canada. He suffered many injuries last year, but showed his greatness against Colgate with 236 rushing yards. He returned for a half against Harvard, but was not at 100%. He is fully healed and headed for All-Ivy honors. Yale captain Deon Randall was a First-Team Ivy receiver last year and can only get better this year. Lehigh is 39-11 in their last 50 games. Yale was picked 5th in the Ivy writers' poll.
