Tucson Region 2014 Softball World Series Breakdown

#11 Arizona, LSU, Louisville, and Boston University

The tradition of excellence continued in 2014 during the regular season for the Arizona Wildcats as they once again will be a regional host as the number 11 overall seed. This an intriguing regional with LSU in the mix and has the potential of being one of the more entertaining regionals in the opening weekend. The Arizona offense  is fantastic and is led by junior catcher Chelsea Goodacre whose 22 homeruns and 70 runs batted in pace an offense that scores nearly eight runs per game. Arizona has gotten some big signature wins against Alabama, Arizona State and Oregon, but they also have an inexplicable 9-1 loss to California.  If the Wildcats can get any dominant pitching, they will make it back to Oklahoma City.

LSU is led offensively by Sahvanna Jaquish who is hitting .340 with 13 homeruns. Junior outfielder A.J. Andrews is lethal on the basepaths as she has stolen 35 bases. The Tigers’ question is their pitching as they have a team earned run average of 2.99. That might not be enough to slow down the Arizona offense this week-end if they crossed paths with the Wildcats. Louisville comes into the Tucson Regional as another very skilled offensive team led by senior second baseman Katie Keller who is hitting .395 on the season. Juniors Kelsi Jones and Brittany Duncan are very dangerous as well at the plate as they have a total of 20 homerun between the two of them. They could be a sleeper team that could advance out of this regional. Boston University will be very aggressive on the basepaths as well. Senior catcher/outfielder Jayme Mask has 34 stolen bases and freshman infielder Brittany Youman has 18 stolen bases. The Terriers return to the field for the first time since 2012.
