Men's NCAA Tournament 3rd Round Game Breakdowns

The first two days of the men’s basketball NCAA Tournament have not disappointed. Both Thursday and Friday started with upsets and that carried through for the rest of the day. Double digit seeds like Harvard, North Dakota State and Mercer are looking to be this year’s Cinderella after pulling off upsets in the second round.

But the third round is where most of those runs tend to come to a crashing halt. The Crimson face a hot Michigan State squad on Saturday with a berth to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. Coach Tommy Amaker knows what former rival coach Tom Izzo wants to do, but there may not be anything Harvard can do about it. On paper, North Dakota State has a more winnable game against San Diego State. The Aztecs snuck past New Mexico State in an overtime thriller. Mercer, a 14 seed, faces another double digit seed in #11 Tennessee. The experienced Bears have a good shot at being this year’s Florida Gulf Coast. And that is fitting since Mercer beat FGCU in the A-Sun tournament to earn an NCAA berth.

The contenders and the pretenders will begin to separate on Saturday and Sunday and College Sports Madness will prepare you for the this weekend’s continuing excitement.
