Last Four In: Georgia, Utah, Oklahoma State, Maryland
First Four Out: Arizona State, Minnesota, St. John’s, Illinois
Georgia even with an early exit in the SEC Tournament should have just enough to get into the field as they do have wins over South Carolina and Furman. Oklahoma State should sneak in by getting another result by beating Texas Tech like they did in the Big 12 semifinals. Maryland should be very anxious to see what the selection committee does with them. The ACC while still very strong is not strong enough this year to be able to assume that Maryland is an automatic with a .500 record. The rise of the Big Ten especially is going to make at-large bids even more of a premium. Minnesota is an interesting case study. They have gotten some nice results and had a trip to the Top 25 but finished in eighth place in Big Ten play…just like Maryland did in the ACC. The difference could very well be the Golden Gophers losses against teams like Michigan State and Northwestern. That might not be enough to overcome even with wins over Ole Miss and Michigan. Arizona State with their loss against a good Arizona side is also going to be on edge a little bit as they are only a game over .500 but they have a huge win at Stanford and have been helped by Nebraska and West Virginia holding serve in their respective conference tournament title matches today.
