Other Week 11 FCS Football Game Breakdowns

 Week 11 “Other” Conferences Breakdowns

This week, the FCS other games are all fierce matchups with most having big playoff implications. Fordham and Charleston Southern face their final tests to see if they are truly ready to play with the top teams, while the Ohio Valley and Southland conferences have some important sorting out to do before the playoff field is ready to be set. Last week wasn’t too great as the predictions went 2-3, which brings the season total to 37-16. We’ll see what this week brings with these five games for week 11.

Prairie View A&M (5-4) vs Alcorn State (7-3), Thursday, 7:30 ET

The action kicks off on Thursday night when Prairie View A&M travels to Alcorn State. The Panthers are coming off a bye and hope to keep their spot in the SWAC standings, where they are still in contention for a division title with a win. Alcorn State had a big overtime win over Southern just two weeks ago, but then suffered a tough 19-18 loss to Alabama A&M last week. A win would improve the already strong season the Braves are having.

Projected Score: Prairie View A&M 27, Alcorn State 13

Bucknell (4-4) vs #6 Fordham (9-0), Saturday, 1:00 ET

Week after week, Fordham continues to surprise.  Last week the Rams needed a late rally to overcome Holy Cross and escape with a 32-30 victory to stay unbeaten. With only Colgate and Lafayette remaining on the schedule, this week may be the toughest task Fordham has left as they attempt to secure a surprising at-large playoff bid. Bucknell isn’t having a strong season either, but after a poor start, have really turned things around as of late. The Bison have won three straight, including a 48-10 upset of preseason favorite Lehigh.

Projected Score: Bucknell 28, Fordham 17

#5 Coastal Carolina (9-0) vs #23 Charleston Southern (9-1), Saturday, 1:00 ET

What a matchup in Week 11 to have a game with teams who sport a combined 18-1 record. For Coastal Carolina the record appears much truer than that of CSU’s. The Chanticleers have proven to have a strong team and, even in a weaker conference, have gone out and taken impressive wins like the 51-32 outcome at Eastern Kentucky. Charleston Southern has been a surprise so far, but reality is about to hit. The Buccaneers may be for real, but they will have to prove it over the next three weeks as they face the toughest part of their schedule, which starts Saturday against Coastal.

Projected score: Coastal Carolina 49, Charleston Southern 20

#24 Eastern Kentucky (6-3) vs Jacksonville State (7-2), Saturday, 4:00 ET

EKU started the season off slow with a 2-3 start, but the losses came to FBS Louisville and current FCS Top 5 teams Coastal Carolina and Eastern Illinois. With EIU in control of the Ohio Valley title race, the Colonels and Gamecocks are both in contention for second, which could lead to an at-large bid. The winner will be placed in a good position with two games to play while the loser will fall behind and may not have the games left to get back in the hunt. History bodes well for the visitors as EKU has won five of the last six meetings.

Projected Score: Eastern Kentucky 31, Jacksonville State 27

#13 Southeastern Louisiana (7-2) vs Central Arkansas (5-4), Saturday, 8:00 ET

The Southland has fallen under the control of the SLU Lions after Southeastern knocked off McNeese State 41-7 a week ago. Central Arkansas is not out of the hunt yet with SLU and Sam Houston State left on the schedule, but the Bears have not been the same since quarterback Wynrick Smothers was lost for the season and coming off a loss to Northwestern State, the Bears don’t look ready for that late season surge. The Lions also still have the Bearkats on the schedule, but for now control the conference race and look to be improving each week.

Projected score: Southeastern Louisiana 38, Central Arkansas 28
