Desmond Trufant NFL Draft Profile

Desmond Trufant

Desmond Trufant, Senior, Cornerback, Washington

Overview:

Desmond Trufant was not the most highly regarded recruit to come to Washington, but once he got on campus Trufant started to emerge as a superb cornerback prospect. It only took three games before the Huskie coaching staff put the 6-0 Tacoma native into the starting lineup. On the year he tallied 47 tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss and two interceptions. Trufant even recovered a fumble which he returned for a touchdown.

Even as a sophomore in 2010 the opposition started thinking twice about throwing in Trufant’s direction. As a result his numbers were not as impressive as expected, but he still made a huge impact on every game. Recording 48 tackles and an interception is not a bad season.

Final Projection:

What Trufant has that NFL scouts will love is speed. On a good day he can run a sub 4.4 40. That is not bad at all for a cornerback who is pretty close to a legitimate 6-0. Trufant is more than just a speedster though. He is a pretty good corner who can come up and make tackles or blanket the opposition’s best receiver. Trufant needs more experience before he will start turning too many heads in the NFL, but he has the raw ability that cannot be taught.
