Taylor Lewan NFL Draft Profile

Taylor Lewan NFL Draft Profile

Taylor Lewan, Senior, Offensive Tackle, Michigan

Overview:

It is not every season that an All-American left tackle forgoes the NFL Draft and decides to return to school. Granted, the 2013 draft was very lineman heavy. Perhaps Taylor Lewan felt like his stock would be higher without so much position competition in 2014. After all, everyone now considers him the best offensive tackle in college football, which was not a unanimous opinion a year ago. Or perhaps the big man just wanted to play another year in the maize and blue. Michigan should be pretty good this season with a more prototypical offense and quarterback in charge. Lewan will go a long way to making each better as well.

Final Projection:

It is hard to know exactly where Lewan would have gone if he decided to enter last year's draft. After all, he went through none of the predraft workouts or combine. Eric Fisher managed to wiggle his way from an early first round pick all the way to the number one spot even though he played no more snaps of football in between. Lewan has similar upside in that he could see himself as the number one overall pick in 2014, even if his senior season ends up being underwhelming. A franchise tackle is just too enticing to pass up when the clock is ticking.
