Ja'Wuan James NFL Draft Profile

Ja'Wuan James NFL Draft Profile

Ja’Wuan James, Senior, Offensive Tackle, Tennessee

Overview:

Ja’Wuan James has spent four years as a staple at right tackle for Tennessee. As the 6-6 Suwanee, Georgia native improved, so did the Volunteers offensive line. By 2012 James helped Tennessee allow a mere eight sacks all season. And this was a Volunteers squad that passed quite a bit with Tyler Bray under center. And it is not like Bray was the most mobile quarterback around either.

As a result of his fine play in 2011 and 2012, James earned a wide variety of All-Conference accolades in both the pre-season and postseason. Those honors will continue as long as James stays healthy. And with 37 straight starts heading into his senior season, James has been able to remain on the field and productive.

Final Projection:

James may never be a left tackle in the NFL, which does limit his draft potential to a certain extent, but he is a versatile player otherwise. At 6-6 and 318 pounds, James could stay at right tackle at the next level or slide inside and play right guard. That potential could make him a much more attractive option in the second or third round to certain teams.
