Montel Harris NFL Draft Profile

Montel Harris NFL Draft Profile

Montel Harris, Senior, Running Back, Boston College

 Overview:

Montel Harris has always been the workhorse of the Boston College offense. Even as a freshman in 2008 when Harris was splitting carries, he also returned kickoffs and the occasional punt. He was simply too explosive and productive to leave on the bench. Harris only had 179 carries in 2008, but he averaged 5.0 yards per rush and reached the end zone a total of six times.

Harris gave up his return duties once he became the Eagles featured back, but that is something he can bring back at the next level. Harris rushed for 1,457 yards on 308 carries in 2009 and had another solid season as a junior, tallying 1,208 yards on the ground. The Boston College passing attack has not been very effective during Harris’ collegiate career, but he has proven to be a capable pass catcher out of the backfield.

Final Projection:

Harris’ biggest issue heading into the NFL Draft is his size. He does not lack strength and has stayed relatively healthy throughout his college days, but it will still be an issue for some NFL teams. However, most teams should look at his production and skills and not let Harris fall past the second round.
