Last Eight In: La Salle, Boise State, Alabama, Temple, California, Illinois, Iowa State, San Diego State
First Eight Out: Maryland, Tennessee, Southern Miss, Iowa, Mississippi, Arizona State, Baylor, Villanova
The two newcomers in this week’s bracket are La Salle and Boise State. They replace Mississippi and Maryland. And that may be a trend over the next two weeks as conferences like the Atlantic 10 and the Mountain West keep making better and better cases to get a whole lot of teams into the tournament. Right now we have five A-10 teams in and five Mountain West teams in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. It is quite conceivable that the SEC ends up with two or three teams. The perception is that the A-10 and MW have a lot of bubble teams, so those should be some great conference tournaments. However, a quality loss to a team like Saint Louis or New Mexico should not put an end to La Salle or Boise State’s NCAA dreams.
