Eastern Washington vs. Sam Houston State FCS Playoffs Semifinals Breakdown

Sam Houston State (10-3) at #2 Eastern Washington (11-2), Saturday, 4:00

The title game in Frisco this year will showcase some of the best the FCS has to offer. Historical powerhouse Georgia Southern holds the most FCS titles in history and is one win away from reaching the title game yet again, or if the fall, last season’s champion in North Dakota State will have a chance to repeat. The other semi-final game has just as much with last year’s runner up, Sam Houston State, and the champion from two seasons ago, Eastern Washington. The Eagles are hoping quarterback Kyle Padron can continue with his hot hand at home, where last week he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. That gives him 17 on the season. And if something were to happen to Padron, the Eagles are well prepared with backup freshman quarterback Vernon Adams, who has tossed 14 touchdowns already this season. Eastern Washington will look to find key receiver Brandon Kaufman who has brought in 13 touchdown receptions this season, no matter who is under center. Sam Houston State has a solid quarterback in Brian Bell who has experience being here just a year ago, but the Bearkats will try to execute more of a ground game with lead rusher Tim Flanders. The Eagles knocked off the surprising Illinois State team last week, while the Bearkats handled Montana State on the road. The winner gets a trip to the national championship. The Eagles want their second in three years and the Bearkats want a Hoosiers story to come to life and claim their first title a year after coming up just short.
