Georgetown Men's Soccer 2012 NCAA Tournament Capsule

Georgetown Hoyas
Big East

The Big East didn’t fail to impress and Georgetown was one of those teams from the Big East that showed off. Along with the Hoyas, Marquette, Notre Dame, and Uconn were fighting for the top spots not only in the Big East conference, but in the NCAA ranks as well. Georgetown was no disappointment, taking away Marquette’s undefeated streak late in the season after losing to both Uconn and Notre Dame. The Hoyas faced off against Notre Dame in the Big East final but were unable to retaliate after the regular season loss to the Irish.

2012 Record: 17-3-1, 6-3-0
Coach: Brian Wiese

Good Results: 8/24 vs Virginia (2-1), 10/13 Marquette (2-1), 11/3 St. John’s (2-1)
Bad Results: 9/9 at Wisconsin (1-1), 10/3 Connecticut (1-2), 10/6 at Notre Dame (0-3)

Why They Can Surprise:
Leading the Hoyas’ offense in goals for the season is forward Brandon Allen with 13, five ahead of teammate Andy Riemer. The Hoyas only had six players that put a ball into the net. The defense did their part only allowing 18 goals and tallied 88 saves between keepers Thomas Gomez and Keon Parsa in the 21 matches of the season. The Hoyas will be facing a lot of similar teams they did in the Big East, so they will have an advantage in the NCAA Tournament going against teams that had a schedule that wasn’t as tough.
