Emery Welshman MLS Draft Profile

Overview:

Before becoming a Beaver, Emery Welshman spent his first two seasons with Siena College. Welshman started all 19 matches in his 2009 freshman season, scoring six goals and three assists to end the season with 15 points. Welshman scored a game winner against Boston College, which contributed to him being named 2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year. Welshman led the MAAC in scoring with 13 goals in 2010 and recorded three assists, which gave him 29 points. He was named 2010 MAAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and was selected to 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru NCAA Division 1 Men’s All-North Atlantic Region First Team. Welshman finished out the season ranked seventh in NCAA Division 1 with 1.81 points per game and fourth overall with .81 goals per game.

Welshman’s performance in his first season with OSU in 2011 earned him All-Pac 12 First Team honors.  He started in all 18 games and led the team with seven assists. Out of 23 shots on goal, Welshman found the net three times giving him 13 points on the season.

Final Projection:

Welshman has shown his strong performance repeatedly in the past three seasons and the pros are more than likely looking his way but aren’t sold yet. Welshman can score and pass the ball for sure, but adding a few more points with more goals will solidify his place on the 2013 draft list.
