Yannick Smith MLS Draft Profile

Yannick Smith MLS Draft Player Profile

Yannick Smith, Senior, Forward, Old Dominion

Overview:

Yannick Smith got off to a bit of a slow start during his time at Old Dominion. As a freshman in 2009, he did start a dozen games and scored four goals and had five assists. However, in 2010 he failed to score a goal and only had two assists.

But as an upperclassman the 5-8 forward turned into the Monarchs go-to-scorer. He netted 16 goals in 20 games, which was good enough for ninth nationally in goals scored. Smith is full of potential, but he does need to prove that he can be a consistent goal scorer.

Final Projection:

If Smith can continue his success in 2012, he will shoot up draft boards and be a versatile goal scoring threat with first round potential. However, his draft stock could fall just as sharply if his 2012 campaign turns out to be more like 2010 than 2011.
