Oregon 2012 Softball World Series Capsule

Oregon Ducks
Pac-12 (39-15, 13-9)

The Oregon Ducks are led in the circle by the power pitching of junior Jessica Moore who posted a 2.43 ERA and 209 strike outs in 244 innings.  Leading the way at the plate for the Ducks are junior outfielder Samantha Pappas, hitting .407 with eight homeruns and sophomore utility player Kailee Cuico, who is hitting .308 with 11 homeruns and 51 RBI’s. The 2012 season has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride for Oregon as they beat some of the top ranked teams in the country and lost to unranked opponents. The Ducks are looking to stabilize their defense and stun the competition in this postseason.

Big Wins: 3/31 vs Arizona State (3-0), 4/10 vs Washington (5-3), 4/21 vs California (1-0)
Bad Losses: 2/10 vs New Mexico (6-7), 3/25 vs Oregon State (4-5), 3/26 vs Oregon State (1-7)
Coach: Mike White (3 seasons at Oregon)

Why They Can Surprise:
When Jessica Moore (27-12) is in the circle and on her game she is nearly unhittable with her swing and miss stuff. Offensively, the Ducks are scrappy and have only been shutout in two games this entire season (4/22 California 0-10, 5/10 UCLA 0-10). They are adept at finding ways to take extra bases and scoring runs. The offense is one of Oregon’s best weapons, led by sophomores Kailee Cuico, Courtney Ceo (hitting .378) and junior Samantha Pappas.

Why They Can Disappoint:
In order for the Ducks to compete in the postseason their defense will need to work out the kinks. Oregon is leading the Pac 12 with 80 errors on the season. Oregon will also need to find a way to get off the rollercoaster and become consistent this postseason if they want to find their way to Oklahoma.
