Jared Cunningham NBA Draft Profile

Oregon State Jared Cunningham NBA Draft Profile

Jared Cunningham, Junior, Shooting Guard, Oregon State

Overview:

Jared Cunningham was overlooked during his collegiate career at Oregon State, but he has proven to be a big time scorer. During his junior campaign in 2011-2012, he averaged 17.9 points. He can shoot the ball, although the NBA three-point line will be pushing his comfort zone if he keeps shooting like he did as a junior. Cunningham connected on 33.8 percent of his attempts from long range and was quite inconsistent throughout the season. However, even when his three-pointer was not falling, Cunningham could still score a ton of points. He has a knack for getting to the charity stripe and does pretty well once he gets there.

Cunningham is heading for the NBA after his junior season. He has potential, but it remains to be seen if that will be the right decision for the 6-4 guard. His defensive prowess alone should at least earn him a roster spot.

Final Projection:

Cunningham is among many shooting guards in this class who can score a ton, but are a little undersized for the NBA. At 6-4 he was not the shortest shooting guard around, but he will have to match up with some taller opposition than he has seen in college. It will not be as easy getting to the basket anymore, especially if the outside shot is not going down.
