Darius Johnson-Odom NBA Draft Profile

Marquette Darius Johnson-Odom NBA Draft Profile

Darius Johnson-Odom, Senior, Shooting Guard, Marquette

Overview:

Darius Johnson-Odom had a very successful career at Marquette. He has been a consistent double-digit scorer, but he saved his best for his senior season, leading the Golden Eagles to a surprising 14-4 finish in the tough Big East. Johnson-Odom averaged 18.3 points per game and knocked down 2.3 three-pointers per contest. He is a pure scorer in every possible way. He can create his own shot, catch and shoot from long range and attack the basket with ease.

The problem is Johnson-Odom is only 6-2 and he is not a point guard. That worked out fine at Marquette, but it raises huge questions when projecting to the NBA. Johnson-Odom did not run into too many opposing defenders who were just as athletic as him but four or five inches taller. He will see that a lot in the NBA.

Final Projection:

While he is a fine defender, his lack of size raises issues on that end of the floor as well. Johnson-Odom is an undersized shooting guard who will likely spend his days in the NBA coming in off of the bench and providing an offensive spark. That will get him drafted, but probably not in the first round.
