3/9 Men's Basketball Bracketology Breakdown

Northwestern Men's College Basketball Coach Bill Carmody

Last Eight In: North Carolina State, Southern Miss, Colorado State, South Florida, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Miami (FL), Texas

First Eight Out: Xavier, Drexel, Mississippi, Iona, Colorado, Seton Hall, Northwestern, Oregon

Oh, Northwestern…how much do we have to expand the tournament field to get you in? The Wildcats, who were already on our first eight out list since everybody saw this one coming, are now all but clearing days to host an NIT game. South Florida also clutched defeat from the jaws of victory and lost in overtime to Notre Dame. That will make USF sweat it out on Selection Sunday, but they are in for now. In the Big 12, Texas got a huge win against Iowa State and should be considered safely in. Mississippi State played themselves back onto the bubble with a bad loss after playing themselves off of the bubble last week. Out west Arizona got a big boost, at least for those who still consider the Pac-12 a more than one bid league, and more importantly a pretty easy road to the Pac-12 final. Colorado also stayed alive by beating Oregon, which knocks the Ducks out and puts the Buffaloes in a must win scenario against Cal on Friday to even have a chance.
