Max Fried MLB Draft Profile

Max Fried, Senior, Pitcher, High School

Overview:

Max Fried is a good sized, hard throwing lefty. His fastball ranges from 90 to 94 MPH and has lots of late movement, making him difficult to hit. He also throws a nasty curve, which he molded after the great Sandy Koufax. The third pitch in his repertoire is his changeup. All three of these pitches project to be plus pitches and he has the tools to be a big time pitcher in the majors. He mixes these well to baffle batters and rack up strikeouts. In 2010 he went 10-3, posted a 1.81 ERA and went the distance three times. In 73.1 innings of work he gave up 47 hits, walked 51 batters, and struck out 76 batters. If those numbers were not impressive enough, in 2011 he was even sharper. He went 7-3, had an ERA of 1.31, and labored through 69.2 innings of work. He only gave up 44 hits, slashed his walks down to 38, and upped his strikeouts to 100.

Final Projection:

Fried continues to improve and impress. He is the top left handed pitcher in the draft and should be a first round selection. If all three of his pitches in his repertoire continue to develop, he should be a left handed ace or number two at the next level and strike out batters at an impressive clip.
