Most successful teams in NFL history

The popularity of American football all around the globe continues to grow every year and much of that is owed to the increase in quality of talents in the league. Through the years, much more attention has been paid to the grassroots, and with college football now doing a lot better, many NFL teams are now greatly benefitting from it.

The franchises who pay more attention to talents from college football have been reaping the rewards lately.

But judging by Super Bowl championships, which of these franchises are the most successful the league has ever seen? Let’s take a look at the top 4.

1. New England Patriots

The Patriots hold the record for most Super Bowl appearances (11) and share the record for most Super Bowl championships (6). And it is interesting how far they have come because, coming into the 21st Century, they didn’t have a single Super Bowl championship to their name, but they now top the log.

They won their first Super Bowl in 2001 with their 6th coming in 2018. When will their next one come? 2026, maybe? Who knows? But well, if you want to bet on that, you might first want to consult Trustnbet. It has a detailed for NFL betting with sportsbook odds, so you’ll benefit from going through it first before you make any bets, whether on the New England Patriots or on any other team or outcome for that matter.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are tied with the Patriots for most Super Bowl championships (6) but they’re joint-second for most Super Bowl appearances (8). And you know what that means? They have a very formidable record when it comes to the big showdown, having only ever lost 2 Super Bowl matches.

They dominated the Super Bowl in the 70s, winning four championships in that decade alone, but their last win came in 2008, so they sort of feel like old news now.

3. San Francisco 49ers

After the Steelers dominated in the 70s, the 49ers came and dominated in the 80s, winning their first 4 Super Bowls in that decade. They would go ahead to win an extra one in 1994, but they haven’t managed to win any since then.

Since the turn of the century, they have reached the Super Bowl 3 times – in 2012, 2019, and 2023 – but they were beaten each time. They’ll surely be hoping that the 4 time’s the charm.

4. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are tied with the 49ers for third most Super Bowl wins (5) and are joint-second with both the Steelers and 49ers for most Super Bowl appearances (8).

The Cowboys won all their Super Bowls in the 70s and 90s, and since their last championship in 1995, they have not even made a single Super Bowl appearance. With one more Super Bowl championship, the Kansas City Chiefs could tie the Cowboys for both Super Bowl wins and appearances. And considering the Chiefs have featured in 4 of the last 7 Super Bowls, you expect them to catch up with and maybe even overtake the Cowboys sooner than later.
