Big 12 Football Week 6 Breakdown

#2 Oklahoma vs. #11 Texas

This game is going to be a reality check for Texas. I haven’t been a buyer on the Longhorns all year and this game will show us a lot. I’m predicting a big win for Oklahoma. Their defense is stout, giving up only 15 points per game. On the other side of the ball, Landry Jones has passed for almost 1,500 yards and ten touchdowns. Texas has run the ball well thus far, and will need to have a great game running the ball to have a shot. This means they need to win the possession battle too. The biggest reason that I’m sold on OU is that they are battle tested. Texas has played a cupcake schedule while Oklahoma has beaten Florida State and Missouri.

Predicted Winner: Oklahoma

#5 Oklahoma State vs. Kansas

The Jayhawks have struggled so far this season, giving up over 44 points per game. That’s good news for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys can move the ball with the best teams in the country. They score almost 47 points per game and throw for over 415 yards per game. I don’t see any way that Kansas can keep up.

Predicted Winner: Oklahoma State

#24 Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech

The Aggies have been on a horrible skid recently. Just two weeks ago they had BCS hopes, but with losses to Oklahoma State and Arkansas, those visions are more like dreams. If they want to put themselves back in towards the top of the polls, they’ll have to string together a good number of wins. That starts with a win against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders struggled against a bad Nevada team. Texas Tech is still 4-0 to their credit, but their defense gives up a lot of points. This will be a good game for the Aggies to try and start fresh.

Predicted Winner: Texas A&M

Baylor vs. Iowa State

Baylor gave up two scores late against Kansas State. This really derailed the Baylor train, but let’s not forget about Robert Griffin. He is still capable of throwing plenty of touchdowns and moving the ball efficiently. Baylor will get back on track and Iowa State will sadly return to relative obscurity.

Predicted Winner: Baylor

Missouri vs. Kansas State

Kansas State was able to stop Baylor. That was impressive. But Missouri is a very different team. Baylor plays through the air, but Missouri has a balanced attack. They throw for about 260 yards and run for about 250 more. But Kansas State is undefeated for a reason. They’ll find a way to keep this game close. Since they’re at home, they might just pull it off.

Predicted Winner: Kansas State
