Outstanding Records Being Broken in College Athletics 2024

If there is one thing to go by when it comes to college athletics, it is that records are meant to be broken. Quite literally too, since so many notable records were surpassed this year by some of the most amazing athletes in any collegiate sport there is today. As the year approaches its halfway point, expect more records to be broken later in further quarters. From the pool to the pitch and even the track, here’s a look back at these impressive achievements and how the drama behind it escalated these breathtaking moments.

Basketball

One of the most impressive records made during the year was by Marcus Johnson from Duke University. In an impressive showing, Johnson scored a whopping 67 points in a single game. This dominant performance has undoubtedly caught the attention of sports betting platforms. For instance, platforms like Betway often highlight notable achievements by adjusting their sportsbooks rankings, reflecting an athlete’s rising prominence throughout the season. With this feat, Johnson now holds a new men's single-game scoring record.

Another impressive feat made on the hardcourt was by Emily Smith, playing for the University of Connecticut. Much like Johnson, Smith’s record-breaking 136 three-pointers throughout the season placed her at the top of betting websites. So far, she has set the record for a new women’s single-season three-pointers record.

Swimming

Two records were broken in collegiate swimming this year. First off the list is Alex Rodriguez of Stanford University, who gave a stellar performance with haste, finishing a 200m freestyle dash in an astonishing 1:39.20. Thompson’s performance broke the college’s previous record by 0.3 seconds.

Another stride made by yet another impressive collegiate athlete is another broken record in women's 100m butterfly. Sarah Johnson of University of California, Berkeley finished her attempt successfully with great haste at 50.85 seconds. The previous record for the next best attempt was 0.15 seconds.

Track and field

University of Oregon’s own Jason Thompson stunned the crowd by finishing fast at a 9.82-second run in the men's 100m dash. Thompson broke the previous record by 0.12 seconds. Meanwhile, Jessica Martinez from University of Texas made full use of the spotlight on her by performing with efficiency and precision in the women's 400m hurdles, finishing in 53.20 seconds. Her performance broke the previous record by 0.25 seconds.

Soccer

An impressive record broken by Ethan Gonzalez from the University of California in Los Angeles this year. This young athlete racked an impressive tally of 75 goals for the year, breaking the men’s career goals record. Alongside Gonzalez was the equally impressive Rachel Garcia from Stanford University who created plays for her teammates by making 23 assists in a single season. This selfless feat set a new women’s single-season assists record.

Volleyball

Jacob Lee of Penn State University set a record for dominating defense with an astounding 17 blocks in a single match. The defensive display created a record for most men's single-match blocks. On the offensive end of the sport, Jessica Lee from University of Nebraska cemented her name in collegiate volleyball history with 2,500 career kills, surpassing the previous women's career kills record.

Wrestling

Wrestling is all about superior technique, which Michael Johnson of Iowa State University demonstrated by achieving a record-breaking 65 career pins. Johnson’s feat set a new men's career pins record. Meanwhile, in another instance of consistent domination, Sarah Adams from University of Michigan made 150 takedowns in a single season. With these many takedowns to the mat, Adams set a new women's single-season takedowns record.

While these records are more than impressive, it is only a matter of time before they are broken. But make no mistake, these feats are here to set standards for future athletes. They are a necessity to develop and create competition between top athletes!
