FCFI Week 3 Review and Week 4 Preview

FCFI Week 3 Review and Week 4 Preview

College Sports Madness did not put up a great score in week three against SI.com, but we managed a victory to get to 2-1. We made some bad decisions on starters and the wide receivers on the bench made our starters look awful. But the important thing is we won and we have some solid receivers sitting on the bench who will get longer looks heading into the crucial week four. In college fantasy football, when the playoffs usually start in week 11, there is a huge difference between 3-1 and 2-2.

Standing in our way for a 3-1 record is CFFL.com. They are on a two game losing skid, but have a nice looking team, led by quarterbacks Kellen Moore and Chandler Harnish, both of whom should be involved in shootouts. Hopefully they will be blowouts and Moore won’t throw five touchdown passes again. Trent Richardson has a tough matchup against Arkansas, so hopefully that will neutralize their rushing attack which also includes Georgia Tech’s Orwin Smith, who is coming off of a huge 38.50 point outing. With a bye week coming for their most productive receiver, Mike Davis of Texas, College Sports Madness should have the edge at that position.

So who are we starting? That is a good question. At quarterback of course we have Case Keenum. He will likely play a half against Georgia State, but that half could see him throw five touchdowns. Russell Wilson may not stay on the field too long against South Dakota, but we have to ride the hot hand and go with Wilson over Chris Relf. At running back Cierre Wood, Rex Burkhead and Chris Polk are all coming off of nice games. The competition is getting a little stiffer for those three, but I don’t know which one to bench in favor of Benny Cunningham who visits Troy this week.

At wide receiver we are hoping Jeremy Ebert finally has another good game. But with a bye week, we’ll have to wait. When Dan Persa comes back, Ebert should be a solid weekly start. For now though, we are going with Jermaine Kearse and D.J. Woods. With Cincinnati actually playing a decent team in North Carolina State, hopefully the Bearcats will need to throw a little more often. Until Marquis Maze proves something, he is staying on the bench. At tight end I kind of like Deangelo Peterson for LSU, even though he didn’t catch a pass last week. LSU can’t throw too far and they did at least try and pass to him in the red zone last week. It’s a big game for the Tigers this week against West Virginia and they are going to have to put some points on the board. Hopefully Peterson gets a touchdown out of it.

We smartly, in retrospect, picked up Maikon Bonani of USF last week when they blew out FAMU. And, as usual, we’ll be not so smart in starting him again this week. Although, USF could put up 70 points against UTEP too, so we shall see. Our only waiver move is getting rid of the North Carolina State defense and finding somebody who plays a not so good team in week four. Auburn’s defense has not been flashy, or even good for that matter, but the Florida Atlantic offense has been worse. FAU was shut down by Michigan State a couple weeks back, so the hope is Auburn can hold the Owls to a touchdown or less and not allow too many yards. If Auburn is ever going to make a play on defense and record a few sacks, this would be a good time to get that started. Their highest point total this season was nine and that was only because the defense scored a touchdown against Mississippi State. Auburn’s defense will be the quickest drop ever after this one game.
