Stony Brook is coming off one of their worst seasons in nearly 15 years. They dropped to seventh in the America East standings and won just nine games total. It was a weird season though and there are plenty of reasons to believe that the Seawolves and Coach Geno Ford will find their way back towards the top of the standings.

Projection:
Four starters are back who averaged at least 9.5 points last season. Juan Felix Rodriguez led the way with 13.3 points per game and added 3.2 assists. Rodriguez is a fine point guard and a dynamic scorer who hit a team high 43 three-pointers and is equally effective attacking the basket. Tykei Greene and Frankie Policelli are capable outside shooters as well. Greene is also a great rebounding guard and Policelli is a 6-7 sophomore who can stretch the defense. Jaden Sayles is the big body in the paint. He cannot block shots like the departed Mouhamadou Gueye, but he will eat up space. The return of Elijah Olaniyi will be huge for this group. Olaniyi missed last season, but was an All-America East first team honoree in 2019-2020 and has scored 1,135 career points at Stony Brook. Speaking of scorers, Jahlil Jenkins has been one of the best in the nation over the last four years. He spent four years at Fairleigh Dickinson where he averaged at least a dozen points in each of those four seasons, culminating with a 16.8 point and 3.2 assist season in 2020-2021. Anthony Roberts did not see much playing time at St. Bonaventure, but he averaged 12.7 points as a sophomore at Kent State. Those are three major scoring threats to add to a roster that still has four returning players who proved to be capable scorers last season. Losing Gueye takes away the flash in the frontcourt, but Stony Brook’s new look backcourt will be amazing and very fun to watch.
