3/12 Women's Basketball Bracketology Breakdown

Last Eight In: BYU, Mississippi State, DePaul, Washington State, North Carolina, South Dakota State, UCF, Michigan State

First Eight Out: Wake Forest, Villanova, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Fordham, Oklahoma, Miami (FL)

In my mind, there are eight teams legitimately fighting for what is currently three available spots. The three teams we project to make it in at this point are BYU, Mississippi State and DePaul. BYU is the most precarious and will be out if somebody else plays their way in. It is very easy to argue that any of those three could be out in favor of Wake Forest, Villanova, Seton Hall, Notre Dame or Mississippi. That is especially true when looking at just how poorly Mississippi State and DePaul finished the season. Arguments can be made for each team in that group. Wake Forest has a nice RPI. Seton Hall has a quality record overall. Villanova really has not lost a game they should have won, but they lack a quality win too. Their best came just last week when they beat DePaul on a neutral floor. It seems quite likely that the bubble will not shrink due to conference tournament upsets. The Big 12, ASUN and MVC are the only remaining opportunities. In the ASUN, Florida Gulf Coast would join the bubble should they lose. In the MVC, Missouri State is definitely in and if they lose the conference would receive two bids and knock BYU, Mississippi State or DePaul out of the tournament.
