HISTORY
The Basketball Association of America was instituted 1946 by proprietors of the major ice hockey arenas in Canada and the Northeastern and Midwestern United States. The Toronto Huskies hosted the New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens on the 1st of November,1946 in Toronto, Canada, in a game the NBA alludes as the first game played in NBA history. Ossie Schectman of the Knickerbockers made the first basket in the game.

The Basketball Association of America was the first league to attempt to play principally in mickle arenas in significant cities after earlier attempts had been made by the American Basketball League and the NBL.

The quality of play in the Basketball Association of America was not significantly better than in competing leagues during its first years. Take for example the 1948 ABL finalist Baltimore Bullets won the 1948 league title after moving to BAA, and the same applies to the 1948 NBL champion, Minneapolis Lakers who also won the 1949 BAA title after moving to BAA. The BAA became the league of Choice for students in colleges(who are looking to become professionals) after NBL teams from cities like Minneapolis, Rochester, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne jumped into the BAA(this was before the 1948-1949 season).

CHAMPIONSHIP
The teams with the highest number of championships are Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.  They won the most championships with each having a total of over 15 NBA Finals wins.
