Florida Men's Basketball 2020 NCAA Tournament Capsule

Florida Gators

SEC (19-12, 11-7)

Florida had high expectations heading into the 2019-2020 campaign. So far they have not quite lived up to those expectations, but the Gators did enough to reach the NCAA Tournament and give themselves a chance to make a deep run.

Big Wins: 12/17 vs Providence (83-51), 1/18 Auburn (69-47), 2/26 LSU (81-66)
Bad Losses: 11/17 at Connecticut (59-62), 1/11 at Missouri (75-91), 2/8 at Ole Miss (51-68)
Coach: Mike White

Why They Can Surprise:
Florida’s frontcourt has led the way in 2019-2020. Kerry Blackshear is an experienced senior and averages 12.8 points and a team high 7.5 rebounds. He is also a dangerous enough outside shooter to keep the opposition honest. Keyontae Johnson is only 6-5, but the sophomore is very tough on the glass and very good at scoring from just about everywhere on the floor. With Andrew Nembhard setting up the frontcourt with his 5.6 assists per game and adding another scoring threat, Florida has a decent offense that can keep up with some tournament caliber squads.

Why They Can Disappoint:
The offense can be inconsistent though. Everybody in the regular rotation is capable of shooting from long range, but Noah Locke is the only consistent marksman. Tre Mann was expected to step into a big scoring role as a freshman, but that has not happened. That leaves a lot of pressure on the short bench to add a scoring dynamic to the offense. Florida does not play tough enough defense to survive an off day in the scoring department and sooner rather than later they will not be good enough on offense to beat a tournament caliber opponent.
