Pac-12 Softball Power Rankings

 

Ten days into the softball season and the top Pac-12 schools have held their own against some of the top ranked teams in the nation. Let’s take a look at the current power rankings.

 

9. California Golden Bears (6-4)

After starting the season 1-2, the Bears went on a five-game win streak before losing 9-3 to Fresno State and 5-2 to Cal Poly. Cal is led by sophomore CF Amani Bradley who is hitting .412 with five RBI from the leadoff spot. Sophomore Alexandra Perez is the leading Bear pitcher, going 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA.

8. Utah Utes (7-2)

Utah pulled off the upset in the season opener by defeating Northwestern 3-2 and followed with a 6-0 record. Leading the Utes are freshman LF Haley Denning (.462 BA, 2 RBI) and senior CF Alyssa Barrera (.417 BA, 2 HR, 6 RBI).

7. Oregon State Beavers (7-2)

The highlight for the Beavers so far was an 8-0 win at Houston. In that game, junior Mariah Mazon threw her second no-hitter of the season and is 4-2 with a 1.38 ERA, while hitting .600 with one HR and seven RBI.

6. Stanford Cardinal (10-2)

The Cardinal have rattled off five wins in a row after starting 5-2. Sophomore CF Taylor Gindlesperger is filling in the box scores by hitting .444 with one HR, 12 RBI, five walks and seven stolen bases. 

5. Arizona State Sun Devils (9-2)

Arizona State made up for an 8-5 loss to Tennessee by defeating Northwestern (6-5) and taking two from Kentucky (3-2, 7-5). Freshman SS Alynah Torres is stealing the show by hitting .405 with five HR and 14 RBI.

4. Oregon Ducks (8-0)

The Ducks have been the surprise of the Pac-12 early in the season. The Oregon pitching has been dominant with a 1.35 ERA and 80 strikeouts. Sophomore 3B Rachel Cid is hitting .448 with three HR and 12 RBI.

3. Arizona Wildcats (9-1)

Arizona’s lost came 6-4 to Oklahoma. The Wildcats biggest win was 8-0 over Tennessee. Senior CF Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza is hitting .412 with five HR and 18 RBI. Senior transfer Mariah Lopez is 6-1 and has a 0.84 ERA.

2. Washington Huskies (10-1)

The big news for the Huskies was senior All-American SS Sis Bates missing the entire St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational due to a concussion. No word on her return. Their lone loss was 8-0 to Alabama when the Dawgs looked travel weary and in shock over missing Bates. UW bounced back with wins over Florida State (7-0), South Carolina (5-4), and Texas Tech (11-5). Bates was hitting .571 with two doubles and a triple in the first six games.

1. UCLA Bruins (10-0)

The Bruins mowed down their opponents in their opening weekend. UCLA leaves Alabama (7-0), Georgia (8-3), and Florida State (3-2) on its list of victims. Junior OF Aaliyah Jordan is hitting .577 with 14 RBI, while freshman 2B Maya Brady contributes by batting .412 with 5 HR and 16 RBI. Sophomore ace Megan Faraimo is 6-0 and has a 0.74 ERA and junior Holly Azevedo is 4-0 with a 0.70 ERA.
