Tennessee’s Song

Nothing screams college football like “Rocky Top.” The song, penned in 1967 by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, is not even the University of Tennessee’s official fight song. However, no song is as strongly linked to a school as Rocky Top and Tennessee.

While country may not be on top of your musical palate, Rocky Top is still a great song. And like most songs that have a little too much twang when recorded by the traditional country artist, this song is great when sung by thousands of drunken Tennessee fans or played by the Pride of the Southland Band.

The Volunteers marching band starting playing the song in 1972 and it quickly became a fan favorite. The rest is history. And when you watch Tennessee host Montana on September 3rd, which may be a better game than you think, and Tyler Bray picks up Tennessee’s initial first down of the 2011 season, you will know college football is here.

But enough history and whatnot, let us just enjoy Rocky Top.
