5/27 Baseball Bracketology Breakdown

Last Eight In: UCLA, Connecticut, South Carolina, NC State, Miami, Old Dominion, Mississippi, Maryland

First Eight Out: Missouri, San Diego, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Florida Atlantic, Loyola Marymount

South Carolina is the biggest winner so far in conference tournament play. The Gamecocks finished the season under .500 in SEC play and have dealt with a lot of injuries to key players this season, but have played well in the SEC Tournament. South Carolina is currently 2-1 in the SEC Tournament with wins over Vanderbilt and Kentucky, and have a game with LSU up next. Should South Carolina win that game, they should be a lock to make the field, but as it stands right now, they have probably already done enough. A number of mid major teams that looked poised for an at large berth have faltered in their conference tournaments, leaving the door open for a team like South Carolina, which has a RPI of 31, a strength of schedule of 11 and 22 wins against the top 100 in the RPI. Expect South Carolina to be playing in a regional next weekend.
