Oklahoma hasn’t made a regional since the 2013 season, but that drought looks to be coming to an end this season. The Sooners have been playing at a high level in 2017, posting a 25-6 record through seven weekends of play. Oklahoma opened up the season with an impressive series win over Long Beach State, and followed that up with big series victories over Baylor and Texas Tech in each of the last two weekends, respectively.  Last weekend’s home series win over Texas Tech was especially big for Oklahoma, as the Sooners won despite their ace Jake Irvin sitting out the series. Through two weeks of conference play, Oklahoma has a 4-2 conference record and look to be a team that could potentially challenge TCU for the Big 12 title. Up next for Oklahoma is a trip to Austin to face the Texas Longhorns, a team that has been up and down this season but has a lot of talent on the roster. The Sooners have great depth both in their lineup and on the pitching staff, and should be a team that will be in the mix to host a regional this season.
