Kansas quickly got past their loss to Michigan State and went to Hawaii and came home with the Maui Invitational title. They began by crushing host Chaminade 123-72. Seven players scored in double figures in that contest. UCLA put up a bit more of a fight, but not much. Perry Ellis was the star of that game, scoring 24 points. The final was against a very, very good Vanderbilt squad. While the Commodores were able to contain Ellis, they could not stop Wayne Selden, who scored 25 points in the 70-63 Jayhawk victory.
