Week 2 FCS Football Bracketology Breakdown

George Hammond

Last Four In: William & Mary, Cal Poly, Samford, McNeese State

First Four Out: Indiana State, Southeastern Louisiana, Portland State, Northern Arizona

Jacksonville State almost pulled the biggest upset in FCS history since Appalachian State took down Michigan. The Gamecocks led Auburn by a touchdown with less than a minute remaining, but the Tigers tied the score with 39 seconds left then won in overtime, 27-20. With its victory over highly regarded Chattanooga last week, the Gamecocks (1-1) are making serious noise in the FCS ranks. It’s only week 2 but several bubble teams have emerged concerning the 24-team FCS playoffs. Out of these seven schools: McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Samford, Northern Arizona, Cal Poly, Portland State and Indiana State – only three are likely to get bids. There are huge games this coming weekend when Samford hosts Chattanooga, North Dakota and North Dakota State square off, Northern Iowa and Cal Poly meet and Montana visits Liberty.
