Last Eight In: George Washington, Northern Iowa, Syracuse, Alabama, UNLV, St. John’s, Colorado State, Old Dominion
First Eight Out: Xavier, Baylor, Rhode Island, North Carolina State, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Cincinnati
With most leagues at least a game or two into conference play, we are learning a lot about some squads that many were unsure about after non-conference play. The big winner so far is Seton Hall. The Pirates beat St. John’s on New Year’s Eve and followed it up with a thrilling overtime win over previously unbeaten Villanova. It was a tough schedule for Seton Hall, but they were up for the challenge. However, those were at home and this team has yet to prove that they can beat anybody on the road. Their only road win in three chances came at South Florida. And this week they travel to Xavier and Creighton. For now, the Pirates look like the real deal, but we’ll hold judgment until after a road trip to two.
