Naama Shafir WNBA Draft Profile

Naama Shafir, Senior, Shooting Guard, Toledo

 Toledo Team Page

Overview:

Naama Shafir has been among the nation’s leaders in assists since her freshman season at Toledo. Back in the 2008-2009 campaign, Shafir started all 31 games as a freshman and dished out an impressive 4.5 assists per game. The following season that number ballooned to 6.7 assists per contest. During the 2010-2011 campaign, Shafir was asked to do more scoring, but she still dished out a team high 5.1 assists per game.

Just as important as her assist totals are the turnover numbers. While Shafir could certainly take better care of the ball, her turnover numbers have gone down every season she has been with the Rockets.

Final Projection:

Even with those extraordinary assist numbers, Shafir is not necessarily just a point guard. During her freshman season Toledo had plenty of other scorers on the team, but Shafir still ranked second on the team with 11.7 points per game. By her junior year Shafir was scoring even more and starting to shoot the long ball with some consistency. She may not be best suited as a shooting guard, especially with her 5-7 frame, but she can do plenty of scoring and when a WNBA team needs a second ball handler on the floor, Shafir would not be a bad option.
