First Four Out: Cal Poly, Bethune-Cookman, Southern Illinois, James Madison
A couple traditional powers kept their playoff hopes alive with huge wins this week. Sam Houston State knocked off Stephen F. Austin 42-28 to move to 4-1 in Southland play and 5-4 overall. The Bearkats have Incarnate Word, Houston Baptist and Central Arkansas left on the schedule and with three wins there, SHSU should be playoff bound. Meanwhile, Northern Iowa knocked off previously undefeated Illinois State to also move to 5-4 overall. The Panthers still have to play North Dakota State and that will likely be a must win game for UNI, but it is at home and this is a team that can knock off another undefeated squad.
