Michigan College Softball Bree Evans 2012 NPF Draft Profile

Bree Evans, Senior, Outfield, Michigan

Michigan Team Page

Overview:

The power hitters got all the headlines, but good teams need players like Bree Evans. The Michigan outfielder has been a superb leadoff batter for the Wolverines during her collegiate career. She does not have a ton of power and she is not the most patient hitter for a leadoff batter, but she gets on base and she scores a lot of runs. In 2011 Evans batted .411 and scored an impressive 63 runs on the year. She is the player that gets on base and lets the rest of the lineup get her home. Evans has also emerged as a defensive leader in the outfield. She may not have blazing speed in centerfield, but she rarely makes mistakes.

Final Projection:

The most telling statistic for Evans over the years has been her drastic decrease in strikeouts. For a leadoff hitter, or even a player in the second slot, a team will want somebody who can put the ball in play and either got on base or move runners forward for the power hitters following in the lineup. Evans struck out a lot as a freshman, but cut that number from 37 in 2009 to just 18 in 2011.
