Early Tests for Vermont

There is no better way to start off a season than with a tournament. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff is not really much of a tournament the way they have it set up, but it is still fun.

Vermont will play two games on the road with a couple games also happening at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Mohegan Sun Arena, home to the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, is located amidst the Mohegan Sun Casino, the second largest in the nation. Thus, a fun little trip for all. But before the Catamounts take a gamble in Connecticut, they will head to South Florida to play the Bulls on the opening Saturday of the college basketball season.

And then it is off to Connecticut to join Marist, Long Island and Radford in the “Springfield Bracket” of the mini tournament. The Catamounts will start off with Marist on Saturday the 19th of November and play either LIU or Radford on Sunday. But the Hall of Fame Tipoff does not end there for Vermont. The next Wednesday they will head to Old Dominion to take on their stiffest competition of the early season slate.

Vermont may not be able to stick around with a team like ODU, but they should be able to keep the game against South Florida close and probably win the mini-tournament with Marist, Long Island and Radford, although LIU will give them a tough test. Either way, we will know a lot more about Vermont by the time they finish up the Hall of Fame Tipoff.
