Riquina Williams WNBA Draft Profile

Riquna Williams, Senior, Guard, Miami

Miami Team Page

Overview:

Riquna Williams started off at Miami as a freshman by not instantly dominating college basketball. However, Williams has gotten better with each season at a rapid rate. In 2008-09, she had a season high 23 points against Clemson, and made steady contributions throughout the season at both ends of the floor.

In her sophomore campaign in 2009-10, Williams cracked the starting lineup for 25 of 36 games and really began to dominate from behind the three-point arc. She set a record for 3-pointers by a sophomore in the ACC with 106, which also was a single season record for Miami. Also, she was named Second-Team ALL-ACC, and led Miami in scoring at 19.6 points per game as the Hurricanes made it to the WNIT Championship game against Cal.

In 2010-11, Williams helped carry the Miami program to its first ever ACC regular season championship and a second round appearance against Oklahoma in Charlottesville, Virginia. She led the ACC in scoring at 21.7points per game and scored over 20 points 19 times during a record breaking season for Miami basketball. It was also a huge breakout season for Williams as well.

Final Projection:

Williams will form a 1-2 punch with Shenise Johnson in the post that should make for a formidable nightmare for the rest of the ACC and Women’s College Basketball. Thus, her draft stock for WNBA clubs should safely secure her in the middle of the first round between her ability to take over a game scoring wise and to create havoc on the defensive end of the floor.
