Tallahassee Region 2014 Baseball World Series Breakdown

#5 Florida State, Alabama, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern

Florida State has had another rock solid season in 2014. The Seminoles are the number five seed overall nationally in the NCAA Tournament and are making their 37th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Offensively, Florida State is led by DJ Stewart, who is hiting.348. Another standout trait of this Seminole offense is their ability to kill teams with doubles as they have six players with at least ten doubles. On the mound, Florida State will be paced by Luke Weaver, Mike Compton and the return of Brandon Leibrandt. Leibrandt’s return even if he can go about five innings or a so a start early will provide great protection for Coach Mike Martin. The protection will be in the form of being able to overcome an early loss if that were to happen this weekend. Also, Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston with his 1.17 earned run average needs to be lights out as the closer as Winston has seven saves on the season.

Alabama, Kennesaw State, and Georgia Southern are the obstacles in the way for the Seminoles in the Tallahassee Regional. The Crimson Tide have some signature wins over Louisiana-Lafayette, Ole Miss, and LSU during the regular season. They will need big offensive performances from Austen Smith, Ben Moore, and Miley White who have combined for 21 home runs on the season. On the mound, freshman closer Thomas Brows has a 4-1 record out of the bullpen with ten saves. Burrows will need to rise to the occasion in close games this weekend. Catcher Max Pentecost for Kennesaw State is one of the best offensive players in the nation and will be on display in this regional as he is hitting .423 on the season. The Owls can score with anyone and will be fun to watch. Georgia Southern has big wins over Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Clemson and they will be an intriguing number four seed to watch in this Tallahassee Regional.
