Corvallis Region 2014 Baseball World Series Breakdown

#1 Oregon State, UNLV, UC Irvine, North Dakota State

Oregon State outlasted a solid Pac-12 conference slate by winning the Pac-12 championship and was rewarded with the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers are outstanding on the mound led by likely national pitcher of the year Ben Wetzler, who is 11-1 with a 0.77 earned run average. Jace Fry is also 11-1 on the season and his performance against Washington in the second to the last series of the season was the difference in breaking Oregon State away just enough to win the conference. Offensively, the Beavers are not going to destroy you with power, but they are very effective in generating plenty of offense. Michael Conforto and Dylan Davis are the anchors to this balanced offensive attack. Conforto is hitting .364 and has a team leading seven home runs to compliment his 55 runs batted in. Davis, leads the way in runs batted in with 63.

UNLV, UC Irvine, and North Dakota State will provide some interesting challenges for Oregon State in this first weekend of regional play. The Rebels bring a nice balance of speed and power to the table offensively. Morgan Scotts and T.J. White are both hitting over .325 and White has 17 stolen bases in 18 attempts. Erick Fedde leads a steady pitching rotation with an 8-2 record and a 1.76 earned run average. The Anteaters of UC Irvine are one of those tournament tested teams that will be a very difficult out in the Corvallis Regional. They will need a big weekend from the pitching staff, led by Andrew Morales who has a 9-2 record with a 1.56 earned run average and does an outstanding job of not walking people. Morales has walked only 24 batters in 109.1 innings pitched. North Dakota State is the Summit League champion and they are led by Parker Trewin on the mound as he is 7-2 with a 2.58 earned run average.
