First Eight Out: Duke, Illinois State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, UC Santa Barbara, Florida International, VCU, USC
It’s make or break time for a lot of college baseball teams. With one week left in the regular season, a lot of teams are searching for a couple more wins to bolster their at-large chances. Arizona State and San Diego State were two teams that took advantage of their opportunities last weekend. Arizona State took two of three from Oregon, while San Diego State took two of three from UNLV. Both Oregon and UNLV are NCAA Tournament locks, so those wins are big for both Arizona State and San Diego State’s at-large hopes. Some teams, such as West Virginia and Duke, were on the other side of the results they needed. Duke squared off against Miami, desperately needing a win, but the Blue Devils were swept. The same goes for West Virginia, who was swept by fellow bubble team Kansas. The next week is going to be important for all the bubble teams, as it is win or face the chances of staying home for the post season.
