Andrew Wiggins NBA Draft Profile

Andrew Wiggins, Freshman, Small Forward, Kansas

Overview:

Wiggins is one of the members of the elite freshmen class in college basketball during the 2013-2014 campaign.  Getting Wiggins was a bit of a coup for Kansas, and he has not disappointed.  He is the team’s leading scorer, and they draw up plays for him at the end of games.  Other than leader and point guard Naadir Tharpe, Wiggins is the go-to guy for the Jayhawks.  He has come up big in big games.

Wiggins has proven he can pour in points.  He can attack the glass as well.  His rebounding numbers are not stellar, but he did nab 19 rebounds in a game at Iowa State this season.  Wiggins has the ability to be an elite level athlete at the next level.  If he improves his defense and free-throw shooting, he will become an All-Star in the NBA.

Final Projection:

NBA teams love upside.  All pro sports do, but in the NBA the young guy with speed and rangy versatility are coveted prospects.  Wiggins is the guy that a team is going to center their offense around.  He is in the vein of Kevin Durant in terms of his build and his ability to play on the wing.  He could be one of the more athletic small forwards in the league once he is drafted.  With only one year of college ball, he still has a lot to improve on.  The flashes he has displayed at Kansas prove that he is worthy of a top two pick.  He will most likely go first overall unless someone falls in love with another up-and-comer.  Either way, Wiggins has been tabbed as an NBA player for a few years now.  There is no reason to doubt him.
