Last Four In: Providence, UC Irvine, Charlotte, William & Mary
First Four Out: Penn State, Memphis, Marquette, Delaware
Notre Dame made a case for being the top ranked team in the country with a couple big wins last week. The Irish beat Indiana 2-0 on Wednesday, which is not as impressive as it sounds, and won at Clemson 2-1 on Saturday, which, incidentally, is more impressive than it sounds. Notre Dame remains in the top spot on the College Sports Madness projected bracket, but they will have plenty of opportunities to lose the number one overall seed. The ACC, of course, is brutal and there are still games against Maryland, Virginia and Wake Forest on the slate. Even when Coach Bobby Clark’s squad goes out of conference the competition is stiff. The Irish host Northwestern on October 15th and head to East Lansing on November 5th. The way the rest of the collegiate soccer world is looking right now, even a couple more losses along the way should keep Notre Dame in the discussion for the number one team heading into the NCAA Tournament.
