Montana State vs. Sam Houston State FCS Playoffs Quarterfinal Breakdown

Sam Houston State (9-3) at #3 Montana State (11-1), Friday, 8:00

The first game of the third round kicks off Friday night and the end results will be well known before the other teams kickoff the following day. Sam Houston State continues its quest to return to Frisco, and to the national title game where the Bearkats came up just short a year ago. According to the stats it’s going to be a high scoring game with Sam Houston State ranking second in scoring offense averaging 42 points a game and the Bobcats just behind in tenth averaging 35 each game. Still, last week both squads escaped close games within a touchdown of the other teams, and neither team was able to put up at least 20 points. Most of the scoring, or at least getting the ball down the field will come through the air with both teams having top 10 rushing defenses allowing less than 100 yards on the ground a game. If either team has success on the ground it should be SHSU with running back Tim Flanders. It’s bound to a great game and Montana State has a great squad, but the experience of Sam Houston having been on this mission a year ago could get the Bearkats an important win on the road in Montana.
